Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Australia

Do I have any rights

My former house mate owes me money from rent and bills from when she still lived with me. Some of her belongings are still in the house. Do i have the right to keep these until she pays me back?

Re: Do I have any rights

You probably have no legal right (lien) to hold the belongings. But its not a bad negotiating tactic.

If you were to sell them you would be liable to her and could be ordered to disgorge the proceeds.
