Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Selling property

I have a civil suit on hand, but judgement has not been issued yet. I am afraid that if there is a judgement against me I might have to file for bankruptcy. I was wondering if I can sell my car to a family member at ''market value'' so that I can pay my current bills and future expenses?

Actually, it is better to file for bankruptcy before the judgment is entered than after because a judgment, if recorded, survives the bankruptcy. If the payment received is far less than the actual value of the car, it may be construed as a fraudulent transfer.
