Legal Question in Business Law in California

Ca Company Shutdown do i get unemployment

I live in California. I have no idea what area of law this question would fall into..

My company had Christmas holiday break this last December 12/18-12/24 1 week then economic shutdown for 1 week 12/15 and 12/17 (2 week total)

Now the company is shutting down for the last week of January. I will only get paid 1/2 of my normal check because I have run out of vacation time. Can I apply for unemployment? We might have some shutdowns in the future. Also what kind of communication does my company have to give the employees. Hi here is your EDD pamphlet maybe you can get unemployment. This is driving me crazy but I am sure someone might be able to help...

Re: Ca Company Shutdown do i get unemployment

You typically do not receive unemployment benefits for the first 2 weeks of unemployment. Even if this temporary shut down qualified you for benefits, I don't believe you would receive money unless it went into a third week.

You can apply for unemployment benefits online at the EDD website. The worse that can happen is that they say no. Just truthfully disclose your situation and see what they decide.
