Legal Question in Business Law in California

fundraising

I am a May 07 law school graduate and was approached by a close friend who's 4 year old brother recently received 3rd degree burn over 50% of his body in an accident. She needs to know what steps to take in order to begin raising funds in the community for his recovery which will be very long and very painful. Any advice will be greatly appreciated and will make it to the ears of a wonderful person who is in need...much appreciated.
