So doing a raffle within your circle of friends and family to raise some funds is generally ok, right? So, what happens if I do it within a social media platform?

Why do you think conducting a raffle is "generally OK"? It's not. It's illegal gambling.

Conducting a raffle among your circle of family and friends is "OK" only because you are less likely to be caught and have charges pressed. It's illegal. See Penal Code sections 319 and 320. Penal Code section 320.5 provides an exception to the ban on raffles for certain charities. They must be nonprofit organizations that have been orgainzed under specified sections of the Revenue and Taxation Code and have been in existence at least one year before selling any tickets or otherwise conducting the raffle. So, your church can probably conduct a raffle, but you can't.
