Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Hi LawGuru Team,

I've been having problems with my roommate. To me she is polite, but she texted horrible things to other friends, who showed me the texts. In them she says she's going to get me for being a miserable piece of s*** and that she should kick my a**, among other things. I took pictures of the text messages.

I'm not interested in trying to prosecute her for saying nasty things about me, but I was thinking of starting a website (sort of like passiveaggressivenotes.com) called Stuff My Roommate Says, and posting the texts on the site. I even toyed with the idea of including pictures from her Facebook page. Legally speaking, could I get in a lot of trouble for posting her words on a website I made? Would I need to make her/me anonymous?

Thanks,

Katherine

Not a good idea, for several reasons, including that escalation of the battle is likely to continue. You should focus on getting out of the roommate situation, not retaliation. There is an old saying that in a p***ing contest, there are no winners, but everyone gets wet.
