Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Third Party Software Laws

Hi I want to develop a third party

software to control a USB device but

they have the following restriction in

their term: ''Unless enforcement is

prohibited by applicable law, you

may not modify, decompile,

disassemble, reverse engineer,

distribute, or copy soft-

ware, firmware, or hardware.''

To develop the software, I would be

required to do some black box

reverse engineering and I would not

need to modify their software,

firmware or hardware.

Re: Third Party Software Laws

I'm not sure what your question is. Are you asking permission? It sounds like you may benefit from a relationship with the hardware manufacturer. You're welcome to call to discuss your proposed plans and what strategies are open (or closed) to you.
