Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Terrible Threats from websights

I go to a sight that has a members only section. And completely by accident I click on the members link.(it was next to an article i was interested in)then a javascript application comes up asking for my name and Password. I didnt want to use the mouse so i simply hit the "OK" button hoping that it would denie me acess and simply get me out of that javascript application.

INSTEAD- Its brings me to a page that says that i have tried to do illegal things and that i was trying to get into the member area without permission. It the threatens me and says my ISP will be notified of what ive done. It then displays my IP Address with a list of emails for my ISP which they will use. I have NO idea what to do. Is what they are doing to me legal??? This happened today so im still not sure if im getting kicked off my ISP or not

Your message bears a date of July 1, 2000, so I hope that you haven't been waiting for the SWAT team to break your doors down for the past month. The site is clearly trying to frighten off crackers and other miscreants. Your error will be most unlikely to provoke any action unless it is repeated.

Best wishes,

LDWG
