Legal Question in Construction Law in California

my employer refuses to pay me my packchecks for a construction company. a appx total of about $1700. ive tried countless times to ask for the checks. i was working while i wasnt recieving checks, begging them saying im running out of gas i wont be able to make the commute unless im paid. now im dead broke no food no gas borrowing money to stay afloat. what can i do to ensure i am paid?

One option is to lien the job. You have the same mechanics lien rights as a subcontractor or supplier and don't have to follow all the pre-lien steps they do. The other is to file a complaint with the Labor Commissioner for non-payment of wages.
