Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Medical Lab w/ exhorbitant costs
We got some tests done for our autistic son, and the doc recommended a lab not covered by our insurance. We walked in and told them we were paying cash. They did the tests. Later we received bills for around $10K, whereas we were expecting a couple hundred bucks. If the cost is so high, aren't we entitled to know how much we will be paying prior to the service, rather than getting a rude bill? They could have charged us 10 million, the concept is the same. Do we have any rights?

You could hire your own "utilization review consultant" to dicker with the lab. Personally, I would not buy a box of cereal from the supermarket unless I knew ahead of time what the price was.
