Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

pet store puppy accidently dropped

My daughter was looking at a very small chiuhuaha. She was sitting on her knees and the pup jumped out of her lap, she hit her chin and sort of slid on the floor. When she got up she was very wobbly. Then she started getting stiff. then she was normal. it was back and forth. Are we liable for this pup? We were thinking about buying it but no papers were presented or money taken. I'm worried they are going to call and tell us that we have to pay for that pup because of what happened. We have decided that she is too small for us. (I think this dog might already have a preexisting condition)
