Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

5 years ago, we lost a house to foreclosure, and it had a second mortgage. i have emailed, called and faxed letters to Wells Fargo to get the information on the credit report updated as it says, foreclosure proceedings started, well as I said that was 5 years ago this month, and they won't change it. In fact last time I called, they said they had no record of the loan. I am trying to purchase a home and they are messing me up. What legal means do I have?

You can contact the credit reporting agencies and tell them the information on your report is disputed.

Meaning that you dispute whatever is wrong with the credit report and make a case to them why its wrong. They'll investigate and make changes to the credit report if necessary.
