California Civil Code Section 2982(a)(3) gives the person whose car was repossessed the right to demand, in writing, a ten-day extension of the time to reinstate the loan. There are certain exceptions to this right, however. The seller of the car or holder of the debt has an obligation to provide you with a form you can use to apply for the extension.

An oral request for this ten-day extension is NOT sufficient. It must be in writing.
