Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

A collection agency wants a copy of my bank statement before they negotiate with me.do i have to give it? is it legal for them to require it? i was planning on blocking out all important account numbers.

Negotiation is just that, you negotiate. If they want proof of what you are telling them about your assets you can give it to them or they can choose not to negotiate.

I would venture to guess that they want your account number so they can levy your account after a judgment. You may block out your account number. Also, if you use it with a debit card, to protect your privacy, you might block out the merchants'/vendors' names, if you wish.
