Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I loaned a friend $2814.73 for 3 different reasons. 1.Said they were getting evicted. $2000 2.Car was dangerous and needed a rental until it was fixed. $200 3. Couldn't work without a phone and therefore couldn't pay back money already owed. $114.73 There was no paperwork signed but received a verbal agreement. No proof of said verbal agreement. Is there anyway I can get my money back?

A verbal agreement is as strong and valid as a written one, just much harder to prove. Your testimony is evidence/proof, and you can support that by showing those sums withdrawn from your checking of bank accounts, proof of payment to landlord, etc. Write to the person and try to get them to admit in writing that they owe the money.
