Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

medical collections

On behalf of my daughter, who has been out of the country for 1.5 years, I have been comunicating with a debt collector located in California, over a debt while she was a student in California. I have agreed to pay the principal but not the interest which works out to 10%. I asked for documentation which states she may be charged interest by from the medical practice but all the documents do not show that.

I have communicated that I will pay the principal but not the interest and they will not budge.

Is the interest payable if she has not signed anything related to interest charges from the medical practice?

Re: medical collections

How long ago was she a student and how long has she been out of the country. There is a possible statute of limitation problem. We would need these answers and would have to review any documenation you might have.
