Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I was just served today with an ORDER TO PRODUCE STATEMENT OF ASSETS AND TO APPEAR FOR EXAMINATION. The short story is, I hired an attorney several years ago and then lost my job. I now owe him a bit over $4000 and he got a judgement against me because I had no money to pay him. I have been out of work for over 2 years. I am supposed to appear in court to answer why I did not file a JUDGMENT DEBTORS STATEMENT OF ASSETS...which I didn't even know I was supposed to do that. We live far below the poverty line, I have had to even sell my wedding bands to pay our PG&E bill. We feed our kids with food stamps. My husband works but it is part time and well beneath poverty level income. My question is, what is my next step. I know I have to go to court or I will get arrested...I will pay my debts when I have a job and income to pay them. I have NO assets, none...even our van we drive is in my fathers name. We have no property or stocks or bonds. So what do I say in court? What will happen to me next? I am worried and suffer from several medical issues that stem from stress...this is the last thing I needed. Any help is appreciated.

The questions asked are usually straightforward about bank accounts, account numbers, motor vehicles, license plate numbers, and other assets. They want to find out if there's anything that they could seize -- including expensive watches and cars, and cash in your wallet -- to satisfy the debt. If you have other financial woes, you might consider speaking with an attorney about bankruptcy relief or do it yourself.
