Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Transcript Withheld

My college whom I graduated from in 2003 is withholding my official school transcript because I have an outstanding debt to the college. They will not release the official transcript until I pay the balance, however, this hindrance is affecting my ability to attend graduate school or even get certain jobs. I would pay the school back, but the $10k I owe is impossible to repay all at once, and at this time. My hope is that with a higher paying job and advanced degree I will afford to pay the school. My debt was a result from a severe health condition (cancer) that occurred while living on campus that caused me great financial strain. The school is aware of my medical condition, yet has offered no debt relief.

Re: Transcript Withheld

Hope your health has improved. You should sue them. Key fact, is this a public or private college.
