Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I am being charged with hanging up on 911 (felony) and assault. I was struck by my father and defended myself but my mother protected him and said i was the aggressor. I walked towards her while she called 911 and said no and reached for it and in process she pressed the end call button. I have never been in any type of trouble and I just received a notice that i have an arraignment on Aug 3 and I have no idea what steps i should take, what i should plea. like i said i have never been in this type of predicament.

You have serious charges pending against you but they can probably be plead down to more minor charges that you might even be able to expunge in several years. I suspect both your father and mother will testify against you; to negotiate with the DA's Office you are going to need an attorney. If you have no money, you can get a Public Defender appointed. If you have enough to not qualify for the PD's Office, the shop around for an attorney you feel you can trust and who will not overcharge you [some attorneys will demand a flat $10,000 or so fee and then end up doing very little on the case]. Speak to the attorneys now. At the hearing, plead not guilty and ask for additional time to get an attorney if you do not have one yet. You want to drag the case out as the longer it takes the less anger against you your parents will have. Read some books, including form Nolo Press, on the criminal system so that you know what might occur [and so an attorney does not over charge you for some act].
