Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Forgery? Counterfeit?

My roommate was arrested for a 470 (d) PC. He had a printer (new) some fake bills and the ink, paper etc. 2 others got him into this because he had real money and a job and this is his first offense of anything like this. When he was 1st arrested bail was set at 9,000. when he asked about commissary they went through his wallet and found 2 one dollar fake bills. The others involved gave him gas money and those ones were part of the 12 dollars they gave him for the gas. Now his bail went up to 15,000. and federal charges. What should we do? And What are we looking at?

Re: Forgery? Counterfeit?

You all should plead stupidity. Counterfeit -$1- bills??!? For the risk you are taking (the likelihood of spending decades in federal prison) you should be paying yourselves better (i.e. printing higher denominations).

If you yourself have not been arrested, or if you do get arrested, keep your mouth shut, ask for an attorney right away, and don't volunteer to be searched or to go to the police station. And get all the funny money and green ink out of your pants pockets and seat cushions already.

Mr Stone's advise is good, as for your roommate retaining an attorney would be a good start.
