Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

pleading innocent

My friend was arrested a while back for shoplifting. She accidentally walked out of a store without paying. She has pleaded ''not guilty'' and this is her first offense. Her pre-trial hearing is coming up soon. Will she qualify for a ''pre-trial diversion'' even though she pleaded not guilty?

Also, is it too late to plead ''no contest''? Please answer both questions. THank you so much.
