What is the purpose of a pre trial and conference meeting ?

My husband has three pre trial dates set after asking for a speedy trial

First it's a pre trial then the conference meeting then another pre trial

If they are all in sae jurisdiction/same court you may be able to consolidate appearances and use pretrial to your advantage...my best advice dont try this without ant attorney
