Representation

An attorney is representing 4 people with the same charge. Is it better for one person to have there own attorney? and why?

In most criminal cases this would be a conflict of interest. If the facts develop in a manner in which the defendants have inconsistent defenses, what then? If it were my life and freedom at stake, I would sure as hell want my own attorney who has no divided loyalties.
