Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

my sister got caught stealing money from her employer. Its about $2000 over a 6 month time frame. her employer confronted her about it after showing proof. she did admit to the crime and offered to quit the job right away. so she did. she is still waiting to hear from the corporate office to find out what they are going to do. she was told they would file a police report for sure. she is only 24 years old with a clean record and this is her first offense. what are the chances of jail time or what could she be looking at?

You have asked this on other forums as well. Please see my answer there. She could (potentially) avoid charges or get it reduced to a misdemeanor, but she is looking at felony grand theft / embezzlement charges.

As a Former Deputy District Attorney, I have been handling these types of cases for over 25 years. Your sister is looking at a Felony and potential jail time. You should direct your sister to contact an attorney at once. I wish you and your family well.................David
