Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Welfare Fraud

I am being charged with Welfare Fraud for not reporting I married my 5 year old childs father in 1996, my child was born in 1995 .I lived with my parents the first 3 years of her life and though I did marry her father in 1996 I did not live with him until 1998. I've been told I owe $90,800 dollars in overpayment. My question is does the D.A have the right to charge me from the time of my childs birth , the time of marriage, or the time that I actually began living with him ???The difference woud be several thousand dollars.

Re: Welfare Fraud

Welfare fraud results from incorrectly reporting your income or other circumstance that must be reported. Your marital status should not be a factor in the matter. However, each case must be evaluated on its own facts.

You need to discuss the facts of your case with an attorney.
