Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I'm just wondering if I'm in the right section of law. I was stabbed and I am pressing charges. Right now the police have arrested the guy but put him in jail for parol violations while they send the knife to try to see if his DNA is on it. When I look up the case on OCSD.gov it shows he was arrested for attempted murder. The detective told me that he put a rush on the DNA test, but I know that sort of thing takes time. How long can they keep him in jail? And will I need to be pressent in court?

I'm sorry you were stabbed. My best guess is he won't get out for at least 15 years. If he's on parole, he's already facing more prison time. Maybe there will be a plea bargain and you won't have to testify.
