Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

birthdate

Are websites allowed to publish your

birthdate? In particular, I work as

an actress in Hollywood and have

always kept how old I am a secret as

I don't look anywhere near my age.

Recently, I noticed on the website

everyone in the industry uses

(IMDB dot com) to check professional

credits, my birthdate and birth year

has been published.

This seems like a violation of my

privacy and I am concerned I will

now be discriminated against in my

career and will lose professional work

opportunities as a result of my age

being published on this website.

Please advise me as to what my

rights are and what course of action

I can take.

thank you!

Re: birthdate

I do so sympathize with your predicament. I turned 50 yesterday, and found an invitation to join the AARP in my mailbox. Unfortunately there seems to be no privacy in this world for anybody, let alone accomplished thespians. Specifically, because of the First Amendment and other reasons, I do not believe you would be successful in taking legal action against someone who would disseminate your true date of birth. I can only assure you that you are every bit as young as you feel.
