Legal Question in DUI Law in California

First time, no memory of event

I recently woke up in a hospital on a gurney, with an IV in my arm. I have no memory of driving my car or of getting stopped and removed from car, or of any test at all or even being read my rights. How should I handle this? I have never been in any trouble. 42 years old.

please help. Fresno, CA.

Re: First time, no memory of event

Hello---Thank you for your question. I am an Attorney member of this site, and I would need some of the other details that you might remember about this incident to be of help to you. For example what were you drinking on that date, and when did you start drinking, and what had you had to eat, if anything? If you'd like to discuss this, I have over 25 years of experience in DUI defense, and I can probably help you not only remember more of what happened, but also point you in the right direction re your possible defense strategy. You may email me, or call at: (562) 929-7422. Thanks, Attorney Woodworth

Re: First time, no memory of event

First of all, you should find a good attorney there in Fresno with specific experience in DUI defense. Ask around the courthouse. The fact that you woke up on a gurney with no memory of your DUI arrest is usually a very strong indication that you have a serious problem with alcohol that you had better address -- before you do not wake up on the gurney. Although unlikely, you could possibly have some other medical condition that causes blackouts. You might discuss this with your doctor, the lawyer you eventually hire, and the other participants in the Alcoholics Anonymous group you should be attending every day starting today. Have someone at the AA group sign a card or paper saying you attended each meeting.
