Legal Question in Family Law in California

Alimony

I am in the final phase of my divorce, we have signed papers which were sent to a Judge last week. My lawyer wants me to pay alominy for Jan, Feb and March. Is this legal? I thought this did not begin until divorce is finalized

Will appreciate your answer.
