Broken Engagement-should I be responsible for paying the wedding expenses?
My fiance and I had been engaged for 5.5 months when I initiated a discussion to postpone the wedding due to our already struggling financial situation-which he agreed to. 1 month later he ended our relationship and chose to move out of our apartment. He is now threatening to take me to small claims court for 1/2 of the deposit that his mother paid to the wedding venue as a deposit ($3,000). Although, this money was not expected to be returned if the wedding would have happened and there was no agreement with myself that the deposit would be repaid to his mother should the wedding be cancelled. Am I financially responsible for the $3,000 since there was no contract and since he is the one who ultimately ended the engagement?
