Legal Question in Family Law in California

child custody

can anyone go to court and get legal custody of your child without your permission? My ex-roommate kicked me out of the house because I was not cleared for her day care facility and she kept my 14 year old son. I have found a temporary place to live for him and for me. She won't let him call me or talk to me. If I call there, she will not answer. I was told that she has been going to court to get custody, and I have not given permission. I plan on getting him tomorrow. How should I go about it?

Re: child custody

Call the police before you go and tell them what's going on and that you need help keeping the peace. In the meantime, she can't keep your child without a court order.
