Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support While In College

I live in California with my eighteen year old daughter. My daughter started college this fall and her father stopped paying suppoet in June (the day she graduated from high school). He is not offering any financial support. Can I take him back to court to make him pay some of her living expenses will she is in school? I pay for her car, gas, food, insurance, health insurance and anything else that comes up.

Re: Child Support While In College

In California, there is no obligation for the parents to support a child who is no longer a minor and in college. Your daughter will get only what her father wants to help her with, nothing more.

However, when did she turn 18? Child support is usually until graduation from high school or 18, whichever is later.
