Legal Question in Family Law in California

Consevertorship

I have a 20 year old son who has significant mental illness and can't make decisions for himself. How do I go about getting consevertorship of him to help access and provide the necessary treatment and to support him in staying out of legal trouble?

Re: Consevertorship

First, I am assuming you are in Colorado. If not, you will likely need to do this in the state where you live. If that is the case, seek additional counsel, as each state varies in procedures.

You need to pursue both a conservatorship and a guardianship. This is relatively easy to do if the person you are seeking to protect has significant limitations.. You will need the necessary forms. You will also need a letter from his primary physician that states the limits of his capabilities. Once you file with the Court, a visitor will be appointed. That person will meet with your son and then make a recommendation to the Court. Then the Court will enter an order.

If you are in Colorado, I would be glad to assist you.
