Legal Question in Family Law in California

re: custody/visitation

Hi,

I have a child who is 4 1/2. I was not married to the father of my child. His name is not on the birth cert. He has not been in her life. He has been in and out of jail for drugs. He is also a sex felon ( he had sex with a 15 year old girl when he was 23). I need to know if he can get any type of visitation? I don't want him involved with my child. I want to deny him the right to see my child. Can I? Do you have any advice for me? Thank you.

Re: re: custody/visitation

If he has to register as a sex offender then he will have an extremely difficult time getting unsupervised visitation. Visitation supervised by an professional supervisor is expensive. There is a fund to assist parents called the First Five. The funds may be available to help with the supervised visitation. His drug use will also present another hurdle for unsupervised visitation. You should consult with an attorney regarding his record to determine your options and best approach.
