divorce vs legal separation

If you file legal separation, then change to divorce, do you stil wait six months after or can you count from time of filing for the separation. Also, I heard you dont lose benefits if you file legal separation where as divorce you are dropped fastl

Yes you can file for legal separation first and wait before you amend the complaint to a dissolution.
