Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have a friend who is in a very controlling and emotionally abusive marriage. She is unable to even leave the house without her husband escorting her. He forces her to weigh herself and makes her life hell if even a pound is gained. He is middle eastern and they have a child together. She is afraid to leave him for fear of never seeing their child again or threats from him that she'd have "nothing". What are her legal options or protections available to her?

This is AMERICA and she will not be left with nothing. She is entitled to 50% of all income during the marriage and the house, as just an estimate. She needs a good local divorce attorney. Get some references, find a good aggressive divorce attorney, and make a plan for leaving. If she stays, her child will also pay a price and will grow up in a horrible environment. She owes it to herself and her child to get out. Her husband will be ordered to pay child support and to pay her half of their property, she will not be left with nothing in California.
