Legal Question in Family Law in California
Good Morning. I hope you can help me. My daughter is 17 and her father who didn't want to have anything to do with her for the past 7 years because our daughter didn't want to live with him and his wife. So he told her; You are no longer my daughter and I don't want to speak to you ever again. It was very painful for her to hear this of course so, we moved out of state and have recently moved back. Now, he wants to have a relationship with her. But since she is 6 months shy of turning 18 he feels he doesn't have to pay any sort of child support. Her dad and I were never married and never had any sort of court order for child support. I think she deserves child support since my husband has been taking care of her for the past 10 years. Do we have a chance to collect child support or is it too late?
Thanks

You can only get child support from the date you file a request for it forward. Support ends when the child turns 18 AND is no longer a full time high school student, OR turns 19 regardless of school status. So it is not too late, but the support will be of pretty short duration.
