Legal Question in Family Law in California

I can't believe this just happened... My ex-husband took me back to court to modify or terminate my spousal support. He had his lawyer from our divorce representing him while I decided to go it myself because I couldn't afford the lawyer's fees this time. I contacted my lawyer from the divorce because my ex also requested an order regarding the retirement benefits (military). I was very nervous about going to court, but I spent a lot of time preparing myself. I couldn't believe how much was wrong with the request than right. It was hard to hear in court that I spent numerous hours of preparation regarding the retirement benefits only to have his lawyer tell the judge that they were sorry because they really meant to ask about the survivor benefits. Today I received the findings and order after hearing with the spousal support order attachment from his lawyer. I happened to go back to my judgment to check something and realized that my lawyer had checked the box for spousal support that states that the court terminates jurisdiction over the issue of spousal support for the petitioner (my ex-husband). I can't believe I missed it and now I feel like I went through that whole process for nothing instead of finding out what I should have done. My question is now what? How could this have slipped by my ex-husband and his lawyer, my lawyer from our divorce, the judge as if it would not be an issue. I'm so upset with myself for not catching it and am wondering if there is anything I can do since the order has not been filed yet.

You need to take your papers to a knowledgeable family law attorney and get your questions answered. The fact that jurisdiction to award spousal support to your ex was terminated is irrelevant to the support payable to you or retirement benefits.
