Legal Question in Family Law in California

Personal and Business Income

I'm self employed, divorced and paying child support. I have filed for modification of the support amount.

I was asked to summit a income statement to the court, which I have.

I have a court hearing coming up tomorrow, and have been asked to bring (at the last minute)to the hearing all of my bank statements as proof to support me statement of income.

Do I have to summit to this request, are do I have some protection under the corporate law of the bussiness.

Without commenting upon pleadings and documents that I have not seen, your income is an issue that is fair game. Self employed parties are required to attach a profit and loss statement to their Income & Expense Declaration forms. Bank statements are commonly sought to check the total amounts being deposited in a given time period against the stated income. If you have deposited more into your account than just your wages (tax refund, money from savings account, loans, etc.) you will need to be prepared to explain the excess over and above your "wages".

Good luck to you!
