August 15, 1992: Betty received $20,250 from Illinois divorce property settlement. The money is deposited into a joint checking account belonging to Bob & Betty.

November 17, 1992: Bob & Betty get married

November 22, 1992: Bob & Betty use $20,250 to purchase a home in Illinois.

October 13, 1998: Bob & Betty sell home in Illinois and purchase home in California.

May 17, 2001: Bob & Betty are divorce in California.

Is Betty entitled to reimbursement for the $20,250?

if everything happened in CA, yes, but you will have to ask a lawyer in Il because their laws are different.
