Legal Question in Family Law in California

relocating my child

I have sole physical and legal custody of my child. I wish to relocate my child within the state. Custody order says I am not to remove child from CA without other parents written permission but I can take him anywhere within CA. How do I notify the other parent that I have court permission to do so?

Re: relocating my child

Presumably the other parent had notice of the custody proceeding. If they appeared in the proceeding, they received a copy of the court's order. If they didn't appear, that is their problem. They can go to the courthouse and look up the case file. However, it would be a courtesy to inform him or her that you are relocating, and as to how he or she may exercise visitation rights if any.

Re: relocating my child

An order that you can take the child any where in California, may not equal the right to move, or relocate your residence without notice to the other party. You should have the court order reviewed by an experienced family law attorney before moving.
