Legal Question in Family Law in California

hi, i am in a situation where i am forced to divorce because i have divorce documents sent to me, the other side has a lawyer, i don't. And they are giving me all these terms to obey to, that i am not aware of what is going on, but i think they are planning to just carry out everything they way they want just because they started these paperworks. Is what these people are doing legal, in forcing me to comply to the divorce they want to make sure happens? Would i have to end up being the victim of their official paper works of nothing but just simply because they can do it to someone that does not have a job& has been dependent in various ways on the spouse for all these years not just in financial ways. Please let me know, thanks.

You can't prevent a divorce if one side wants it. The best thing you can do to protect your rights is either speak to a family law facilitator in your nearest courthouse, or hire a competent family law attorney to advise you and help you.

Mr. Roach is absolutely correct. Remember, once you have been properly served with divorce paperwork, you must, (preferrably through an attorney), file a Response to the Dissolution on the proper paperwork, with the court. If they have served you with any documents that have an upcoming court date, don't wait until the last minute to get help dealing with that. You will not want your matter to go into default. So yes, either speak to a family law facilitator at the courthouse if you don't have funds to hire a lawyer, or contact a lawyer immediately.
