Unlike child support, spousal support is discretionary with the court. It is up to you to prove your case to the court regarding the necessity for, and amount of, spousal support. Also, both parties may agree a figure without the court's assistance.

You may also be entitled to further assistance - ie, attorney's fees.

If you can't reach an agreement, I strongly suggest that you retain an attorney to assist you. Your attorney can seek temporary support for you pending trial. Keep in mind however, temporary support is very often different from permanent support.

The expected of time that he would pay spousal support after a 7 year marriage would be 3.5 years. The length of time would vary depending upon the facts of each case. Such as your health, job status and ability to earn. Six month is not a long time for a disabled person to recover and obtain adequate employment.

In a general sense, spousal support is often calculated two different times and in two different ways (temporary and permanent).
