Legal Question in Family Law in California

My wife moved out last week and we filed divroce paperwork with the court last week as well. We are in CA. Can I change the locks on the house so that she can not come in and out without my consent?

Yes, but in the interest of keeping the hostility in the divorce as low as possible, considering it will be high enough no matter what, I recommend that you tell her rather than having her just find out when her key doesn't work, and then make arrangements for her to come over and collect anything she needs that she did not take already. Also, it would be a good idea to go in for a temporary order for exclusive occupancy of the family home, to make it all official. Lastly, you should know that if the rental value of the home is greater than your mortgage, taxes and insurance payments, you could wind up owing her rent once you get down to property settlements.
