Financial Obligation of Employee

Is FMLA considered an insurance? Does the employer and employee contribute toward the FMLA in order to qualify for a leave? If so, while on leave is the employee required to pay his portion of the premium?

The FMLA is not insurance, so there are no premiums to pay for the leave under FMLA.
