What Does Doctrine of Clean Hands Mean?

Can someone please tell me what the Doctrine of Clean Hands means? Is it an effective defense in a lawsuit? I am being sued by someone but the grounds for their lawsuit come from wrongful actions on their part and not mine. Now they are trying to benefit frmo their own wrongful acts. Thakns.

Yes, it is a general rule in the law that people must not benefit from their own wrongful acts (they must come to court with "clean hands.")
