Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Jurisdictional question. Company incorporated in California but sells its product worldwide.

Product was purchased in San Diego (California). I need to file a suit against the company for false advertising and damages (B&P 17200) but I now live in Sacramento (California).

Since defendant's products are widely sold in Sacramento through independent stores that sell many other products, can I sue in Sacramento?

This is not a food product.

First, your question is a venue question, not jurisdiction. The answer is "No, Sacramento County would not be a proper venue based on what you have given us." The sale of their products in Sacramento County does not confer automatic proper venue there. Since you purchased in San Diego, you must sue there, or where the corporation maintains its principal place of business. There might be ways to get venue in Sacramento County, but not based on the limited information you have given.

Search at the above website to see where the corporation (assuming it is a corporation), to see where its principal place of business is within the State of California. You may be pleasantly surprised if it is near where you currently reside.

Good luck!

I agree with Mr. McCormick. The venue rules are particular. You would only be able to sue in Sacramento if the corporation's principal place of business was in Sacramento.
