Re: Do I need a lawyer

Sounds like you do need a lawyer. Most civil judgments are dischargeable in bankruptcy, but many aren't and you have offered no information from which to assess whether yours is dischargeable or not.

Bankruptcies have consequences you may not recognize, so you should consider this option carefully.

Also, even if you don't have the money *now*, you may be able to pay the judgment in installments and that ability could defeat your bankruptcy petition.

I'm not a bankruptcy expert and I'm not in your local area, but you should find someone nearby to advise you.
