Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

our court date is near

my question is that i have my court date in 4 day and my lawyer didn't tell me that I had to make a letter of forgiveness to immigration when I was stopped in the border coming back to USA when I went to Mexico in 2006 (I found out today 12/03/08 by another person) However I had not open my case to be a residense in USA yet. What do I do since my lawyer did not tell me about the letter and he's been helpping me with my case for over 2 years, and he also never told my Husband and he has been fixing for 6 years. Another thing that I don't want to do is lLIE to the judge, because my lawyer told me to lie; He said that they will not find out and we have NEVER been to Mexico. I am so worried!

Re: our court date is near

What are you talking about, a letter of forgiveness? First of all, what are you going to the immigration judge for -- are you in removal proceedings, are you filing for some kind of relief? Sounds to me as if both you and your husband are totally confused as to what is going on. With that in mind, tell your lawyer to explain what he is doing? I don't think your lawyer has asked you to LIE -- I hope. First of all, there are ways to find out whether your husband went to Mexico or not, so lying won't help. But there are more facts to this -- get your lawyer to explain. If he cannot, you are free to go into court and advise the court that you want another lawyer and you need at least two weeks to find one. Feel free to contact me offline at [email protected], or at my website, www.seglegal.com. Good luck!
