Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

My husband and I are hoping to by our first house. However it would be best if we could use state government assistance offered to first time buyers. My husband is a legal resident. My parents sponsored his green card and with that comes the responsibility to repay any government assistance (food stamps, unemployment, etc). Would a state government program for first time buyers that helps get them lower down payments and low fixed interest rates fall within the government assistance programs the federal government is trying to avoid immigrants receiving? Or should we be fine to use the state provided first time house buyer program without repercussions?

A first time home buyers program would not be considered government assistance. On the contrary if you are making enough income to afford to pay a mortgage etc, that's very positive.
